The Lance P. Sijan Chapter annually sponsors scholarships awarded to outstanding high school seniors who have been accepted for enrollment at a college or university, and to current outstanding college students. Applicants must be high school seniors/graduates who plan to attend college during the 2011-2012 academic year. Students selected for full scholarships that will be awarded in 2012, or have been selected to attend a Military Service Academy, are not eligible. Likewise, applications will only be accepted from students who themselves or their parent(s) are current members of the Air Force Association (membership numbers provided in the application will be verified by the Scholarship Selection Committee prior to scoring the application).
The Lance P. Sijan Chapter Scholarships are awarded based on the overall character and successful leadership potential of the student, which includes academic achievement, community service, demonstrated leadership responsibilities and writing composition. A Scholarship Selection Committee, comprised of aerospace industry leaders, will score all applications and select the scholarship recipients. The scholarship selection process is nondiscriminatory and Scholarship Committee members’ immediate family members are not eligible for a scholarship award nor can they benefit financially in any way from this program. There is no specified restriction on the use of scholarship award moneys; however, it is the intent of the Sijan Chapter that they be utilized in the direct support of academic pursuits.
Complete
application packages must include the following (only complete packages will be considered):
- Application form (completely filled out). Applicants must use the application form from the Lance P. Sijan Chapter website at http://www.afasijan.com to apply for a 2011 scholarship. This one form will be used for all scholarships.

Our nation is currently facing unprecedented challenges in the form of a worldwide economic recession, political and military security threats, and daunting domestic issues such as basic medical care. In order for America to remain a superpower, we will need the help of young leaders. In your opinion, what is the most significant leadership quality needed in times like these, and why is that particular quality so important?

2011 Scholarship Winners
This year the Lance P. Sijan Chapter of the Air Force Association selected 15 students for scholarship awards. Awards ranged from $1500.00 to $750.00 per winner and were awarded at a very nice Awards Reception held at the Hyatt Summerville Suites hotel on 9 June 11. The students were brought up to the front, Roy told the audience a little about each of them and the scholarship checks were given to the winners or their parents as some students were not able to attend due to study abroad, or other summer programs.
Selections were made based on academic excellence, demonstrated successful leadership and leadership potential, community service, and a written composition. The Scholarship Selection Committee, comprised of chapter aerospace industry leaders, Roy Griggs, Linda Aldridge, and Dave Schiller scored the applications and selected the scholarship recipients.
